Carma, Polishing Dervish

img_0917.JPGimg_0919.JPGSo after taking off bits, I’ve finally put back new bits. Most of it goes pretty smoothly. The generic hydraulic hose I got for p/s return hose is too small, but the old one looks ok so I reuse it. About ready to run again! But before it get’s too late in the evening, I decide to bust out the random orbit polisher.

So here it is, The Porter Cable random orbit sander/polisher. The one sold at Slim’s is the 7336, which is actually the same as the often mentioned 7424, just set up for sanding. So all you have to do is buy the buffing pad. Oooo, random orbit gives it vibro action! First I go over the hood again. img_0921.JPGimg_0922.JPGNow to see how it does on the untouched chalky stuff. I hit the roof with the buffer. Oh yeah! This is making quick work of cutting through the oxidation. And my hands and arms aren’t aching! Yes yes, Daniel-san no wax on wax off, do modern way. In a bit over an hour I’ve done the roof and most of one side with an initial pass. img_0925.JPGYou can see the crusty section. It’s going to need more passes and perhaps a more aggresive compound than the medium cut cleaner I’m using. Maybe see what going to the rubbing compound does. But still, I like! Power tool good! I was a little dubious on how the tool would feel as it didn’t seem terribly ergonomic compared to the Bosch ones, but it actually works out fine. Ended up not using the side handle. I’m looking forward to getting it all cleaned up, Derek will freak, he’s the only one who’s seen it in the before condition.

It’s gotten too late in evening, so stopped polishing. Decided to try & start the car. Cr*p, there’s lights blinking at me it turns over, but doesn’t run. I set about to remove the alarm module. So now I got it to stop blinking at me, but it still doesn’t run. Confirmed spark, sounds like fuel not going. Nut’s, electrical gremlin somewhere. Time to call it a night!
