Hatsuhinode 2013

Yet another year of thoughts of waking up early and riding up Koko Head for hatsuhinode ignored as I rushed up the street 10 minutes before sunrise. Pretty clouded over so couldn’t see actual moment of sunrise. Wasn’t until a good fifteen minutes later could get a decent picture.

And this island is getting too crowded. It was only a few years ago when I first did this that the only people there were me, a older couple walking dog, and a few hikers. Here you can see the upper lot, completely full, and the lower lot where I parked was half full!

Honestly guys, we better do this trail soon to say we did it, because I don’t know how much longer it can sustain the traffic. Last time I did it there was noticeable change, and a short period. From afar you can see how much more noticeable the trail is now.

  • Happy new year! You mean you didnt want to be the 1st HFD copter call of 2013?

  • Mark my words… no, wait – that’s Sparklicka’s line!

I was going to walk up Makapu’u, but the weather outlook was too iffy. I’m glad somebody got out and did it. Akemashite omedetou gozaimasu!

  • Sounds like Makapuu is crowded too, I read the thing in paper that the parking is full by 05:30.
I’ve been surprised that I haven’t seen HFD1 these past few weeks. I did hear it a few times, but guess they were just on route to a another call.
Fabio, we need your access to Koko Head, how lazy and awesome would it be to cruise by everyone in your vehicle and drive to the top!
