1951 Chevy door shaving

So after friday eve’s rumblings about shaving the door handles on J’s ’51 Chevy, the call went out to do it in the afternoon, when its not as hot.

So the basic idea is to smooth the lines of the car by removing the exterior handle.

Lots of Cut! Weld! Grind! involved.  Lots of re-learning how to weld.

It all went pretty fast, and after the project, we’re pretty confident we can do more difficult projects, like frenching the headlights, or replacing the doorskins.

Heres a video of the project.  Five hours in 3 minutes.

Difficultly: Moderate (you need someone that can weld)

Stuff required: Welding gear, angle grinder, Bondo, and related accesories

Happy Bird Solo Mission

So there I was looking for something to do after a dinner outing.  I rang the usual suspects, but most were already settled and/or sleepy, so I had resigned myself to going straight home.  Then I get this random text message, “Are you at Imanas?”  No, I say, I am not at Imanas, but I could be.  So after flip floppin’ a bit I decide to go there for a beer.  Well, Okay not Imanas, my friends were at Kohnotori!

So I order a draft beer, and disgruntledly ask if they have the kawa (skin).  The previous 5 times I’ve asked this question had been met with a negative response.  But this time the waiter dude says YES.  LAST ONE!

I immediately order that last skin.

Words cannot describe how wonderfully tasty and how wonderfully salty this preparation is.  It was totally incredible!  No wonder it is such a popular item.

Fennel Fest

FennelOkay, so it wasnt really a FEST per se, it wasnt even a main ingredient. But this thing is so weird, it deserves to be in the title. When you cut in to the root, it emits a strong root beer like smell. Its ultimate fate was to be pan fried and served with a Spinach Salad. This was the prelude to Penne with fresh Pesto, and a breaded Mozzarella stuffed chicken on the side.

Amazon thinks Hawaii isnt a state?

Dear Amazon, Can you tell me why your ASIN B00007GQLS cannot be shipped to Hawaii?

Thank you for writing to Amazon.com.

We are in the process of expanding the types of items that we are able to export to our customers living in U.S. territories, but at this time we cannot ship Camera & Photo products to U.S. territories.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

WTF! Dont you people know that Hawaii has been a state for 49 years!?

Thanks Amazon. Although you have free shipping, you are still IDIOTS!

Forgotten FTP!

Dammit, since I was working on all this site re-organizasion, I completely forgot to Fight The Power and take the time to remember Mr Chin, on June 23.

Goodies

So I’ve started moving some things around from the old site, and created a new blog thing-a-ma-bob on the banner menu which I’ve named goodies. A lot of snm extras will find their way in there eventually. First up is oni’s collection of email back to us during his tenure as a JET office guy in Okinawa originally titled Our Man In Japan. Going back to these emails really brought back some fond memories of those times.

Incidentally, it was recently OniSpawn’s first birthday.   Congratulations!

Look forward to more goodies as I get to them!

While I was setting this all up I accidentally did a computerwide search on the term “goodies”, and it came back with this little gem!  I had forgotten all about this.

danger!

All the more reason to beware of guys with snowdecks (AHEM, risu…..)

Yardhouse

So this past sunday after attending and shooting the 29th annual Pan Pacific Festival Parade, Taro and I decided to leverage our choice street parking (ie: free) and check out the newly constructed Beachwalk Venue for food.

Remember 64

Dont forget to take the time to remember the thousands that died this day in 1989 fighting for freedom.

pardon the mess

Pardon the mess while we reorganize some things, and hopefully make the site pretty.  Dont worry though, none of the asinine commentary you’ve come to enjoy will be lost!

Okonomiyaki Chibo

Having spent the evening fruitlessly shooting at the 2008 Honolulu Toro Nagashi, Root and I decide to fight the traffic and re-visit Chibo at the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Centre.

After standing/sitting/kneeling around at Ala Moana Beach Park for the better part of the afternoon / evening, we’re pretty parched. Excellent! Chibo has Yebisu Beer.Mmmm, Beer Continue reading ‘Okonomiyaki Chibo’
