Weather Relief

Friday, 09 November 2007

Last weekend’s thunderstorm and the continued heavy rain persisting through the beginning of the week kept me indoors and off the bike. The rain had subsided by Wednesday, but a late drizzle and dark skies put a damper on riding by the time I got home. I managed to get home fairly early on Friday. The sun was still above the mountains and was challenging the mixed clouds for dominance, but there were no hints of rain. Gearing up, I went out on my normal loop.

The feeling of speed, the rush of wind, even the burn of exertion were all welcome sensations after a long absence. The sun was still shining out on the little islet out at the mouth of the bay when I got to the top of WCC on my first lap. Three laps later, the sun had retreated behind the mountaintops and sent the Windward side into twilight. I continued riding until I couldn’t see then headed back home.

D = 7.26-miles (11.68 km), Vavr = 11.4 mph (18.3 kph), Vmax = 25.2 mph (40.5 kph), T = 38-minutes

Note:  Almost everything on this site is metric except for the bike stuff, just because we are so used to thinking of ride distances and the associated pain and suffering factor as related to statute miles.  I’m starting to include the metric distance equivalents in parenthesis.  Eventually, I will switch the metric to the main and the statute measurement to the parenthetical, and at some point do away with the miles altogether.
