Paint Pounders

So Saturday I start on installing the rest of the wheel studs. Having gotten da theorems down, the other rear wheel is done quickly. Scat called as I was starting to work on the front. I guess he was inspired by our midweek jump session and he asked about the weather at my house. There isn’t a cloud in the sky and it’s brutally sunny. I’m sure it would be a great day to hang at the beach and watch all the beach bunnies out on this March Hawaiian day, but it’ll be roasting out at the dirt jumps. img_1135.JPGSo instead he shows up in the Sled with Chuck. They went by the body shop to start up Chucky’s Camaro, which is finally almost done with body & paint. Long story, best you ask Chuck about it if you want to know the whole story. By this time I was already done with one of the fronts, so there was only one wheel left to do, not much they could help with there.

img_1137.JPGSo they get Chucky’s obsessive compulsive side going and they start picking at the messed up paint on the front bumper. Scat starting smacking the plastic bumper with hammer to try and get more paint to come off. A chemical stripped would easily deal with this, but I’m sure would also attack the plastic. Anyway, this keeps them occupied, and allows for some artistic release by Scat.

img_1138.JPGFinishing the last set of wheel studs, we still got some time, so decide to try swapping out the exhaust manifold to the tubular header from the 20v. It was nice having a crew doing that, it made it less annoying when we discovered the headers don’t fit with the starter motor! Damn! I guess that’s one reason why the 20v has the starter on the other side of the engine! That really is a better place for it anyway. But that means I won’t be able to put those headers on unless I switch out the bellhousing. That’s a bit of work, so I decide to put back things for now. It’ll have to wait for when I do the clutch and flywheel.
